My Happy Place, My Greatest Challenge In September 2025, Leanne took on the Super Six at Swim Serpentine - a 6-mile open-water challenge. Leanne was inspired by a personal connection to cleft conditions. A friend close to her family was born with a cleft palate that went undiagnosed for two and a half years, underwent surgery, and received years of intensive speech therapy. Wanting to fundraise for children who need treatment in lower and middle income countries, she set herself a target of £1,000 - and smashed it, raising £1,645. Leanne completed the 6-mile swim and ranked highly in the women's category. It was her longest distance yet, but she was no stranger to open water, having grown up swimming competitively before rekindling her love of the sport 15 years ago. A recent swimming holiday in Croatia to celebrate her birthday sparked the idea to take on the Super Six. The challenge demanded serious preparation. "It's not just getting into the pool," she said. "I've had to work out how to fuel properly. I've been doing strength sessions in the gym, yoga and Pilates as well. I set myself a proper training regime, which I'd never really done for an event before." For Leanne, the swim meant more than a personal achievement. "I love the open water, it's my happy place, but if it hadn't been for CLEFT, I wouldn't have done this. It's not a challenge you take lightly, but I'm grateful they gave me this opportunity because it has been great in so many different ways." Manage Cookie Preferences
